Hands-on chiropractic care

Chiropractic Adjustments

A chiropractic adjustment is a hands-on technique used to improve movement in joints that are not moving as expected. At SCHR, the decision to adjust, the technique used, and the frequency of care follow an individual history and examination.

When it may be considered

Care begins with the reason behind the recommendation.

  • Restricted spinal or extremity joint motion
  • Mechanical neck or back discomfort
  • Movement limitations after activity or injury
  • A care plan that may also include exercise or soft-tissue support

Your appointment

What the process looks like

  1. 1

Discuss symptoms, health history, prior injuries, and goals

  2. 2

Complete a movement, orthopedic, and neurologic evaluation as appropriate

  3. 3

Review whether chiropractic care is reasonable or whether referral is needed

  4. 4

Receive an explained treatment plan before care begins

Expectations

What happens afterward

Some people notice short-term soreness after an adjustment, similar to starting a new activity. Response varies. Your doctor will explain what to monitor and adapt the plan based on function, comfort, and progress.

Contact the office if symptoms change unexpectedly or you are unsure whether a reaction is normal. Emergency symptoms should be evaluated through urgent or emergency medical care.

Common questions

Chiropractic Adjustments FAQs

Will I be adjusted on the first visit?

Not automatically. The first priority is determining what is appropriate after your evaluation.

Do adjustments have to make a sound?

No. A sound is not required for a useful treatment response, and lower-force options may be considered.

How many visits will I need?

That depends on the condition, duration, examination findings, goals, and response to care. SCHR does not use one schedule for everyone.
